Cub Scout Day Camp Information

HOLLYWOOD DAY CAMP SCRIPT

ON THE SET

Day Camps will be held all over the Simon Kenton Council during June, July, and August. Check the specific camps for dates.

EXOTIC LOCATIONS

Day Camp is the camp that comes to the boy; so, Day Camp is held in neighborhoods and communities throughout the Council. Check the specific camps for locations.

COSTUMES

A Day Camp T-shirt will be provided each boy as part of the camp fee.  Available sizes are YMED – A3XL. This shirt, along with weather-appropriate clothing, will be the official Day Camp uniform and must be worn to camp each day, dirty or clean.  Boys need sturdy shoes, hats, water to drink, sunscreen and a sack lunch.  Please label all items with the boy’s name.

CASTING CALL

Boys should arrive at the assigned check-in time for the specific camp. Check-in at Camp Headquarters the first day, and then as directed the following days. Each boy will be assigned a Home Den.

PROPTS

Camp-wide flag ceremonies are held to open and close camp each day.  Please assemble by Home Dens at these times.

DUTY TO GOD

Day Camp will open and close each day with a message from a local religious leader.  Different denominations will be represented each day, and the message will be non-sectarian in nature.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

Dens will rotate through a variety of stations each day:  team sports, games, nature, crafts, Scout skills, archery, air rifles, cooking, and den time.  The activity at each station will be different each day of camp. Programs available vary by camp.

COMMISSARY

It is the responsibility of each boy to bring lunch from home each day of camp, unless otherwise noted.  Care should be taken to see that food items can safely withstand the heat of Day Camp.  Den Leaders must to bring coolers to store their den's lunches.  Please do not bring glass or metal containers.

CHORUS LINE

Day Camp will host some form of entertainment for the Scouts after lunch.  This is to be a rest period for the Scouts.  All dens are to assemble at the flagpole for the show.

REFUND POLICY

Requests for refunds should be submitted in writing to the Day Camp Administrator (District Executive).  Within two weeks of camp, the balance of the camp fee (less $10) is refundable only when:  (a) illness of the individual prevents attendance at camp,  (b) illness or death in family prevents attendance at camp,  (c) family moves from the local area and makes it impractical for individual to attend camp.  Otherwise, fees are not refundable.

STUDIO STORE

The Day Camp Trading Post provides a wide assortment of souvenir and comfort items for sale.  Handicraft kits, supplies, patches, T-shirts, hats, and many other items are available.  The Trading Post is open during lunch and after closing.  Pocketknives will not be sold to boys without a parent present.

IT’S A WRAP

All Scouts are to be checked out as they are picked up at the end of the day.  Den Leaders must remain at camp until each of their boys has been checked out.  Parents should pick their boys up no later than the closing time of camp.

INVISIBLE ACTORS

Boys should have no reason to leave Camp, but if necessary, they must be under the supervision of an approved adult. Boys and parents must check out and in with Camp Headquarters to prevent lost-Scout situations.  Custodial Parents must notify Camp Headquarters in writing when another adult is permitted to pick-up their Scout from camp.

SHINING STARS

Visitors are always welcome at Day Camp.  All visitors must check-in and check-out with the camp headquarters.  Family Day at Day Camp will be announced on the first day of camp.

BLOOPERS

We understand that, at times, things do not always go the way we would like to see them and that we are not perfect. Day Camp has an open door policy regarding complaints, but we ask that proper channels be used when available.  Please address all complaints, concerns, and suggestions to your Den Leader, the Program Director, Camp Director or the District Executive.

KEY GRIP

Leaders should encourage all Scouts to mark their possessions with their name and pack number.  The camp is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items.

GAFFERS

The lost and found box is located at headquarters. Money and other items should be turned-in when found.

CO-STARS

The buddy system is to be used for all Day Camp activities.  It is a good idea to use the buddy system at all times.
