2008 Projects

Caleb Shepard Troop 873 Rehabbed a memorial in Mitchell Cemetery for Mary Hawk who was the first white female born in Ohio. Created a walkway 146 ft x 3 ft to the memorial consisting of pea gravel, sand with a brick edging as well as an octagonal walkway around the headstone. Information about Mary Hawk will also be provided. This was done for the Darby Township Trustees.

William Yokum Troop 104 Constructed 4 picnic tables (8 ft long) and 4 benches (18.5 ins tall) (2 outside and 2 inside) - repaired and repainted (1) existing bench and (1) picnic table and cleared space for new outside furniture for Madison County Fish & Game.

Jim Alderman Troop 873  Built a 5 x 8 – 4 wheeled – portable ticket booth for the Fairbanks HS in Marysville which included 2 counters – steel frame around the bottom with a window and a trailer hitch

Michael Garwood Troop 873  Built 10 birdfeeders for the Gables Nursing Center in Marysville.  These feeders were installed on 4 x 4 x 6’ poles which were cemented into the ground.  On the top of each bird house a mix of annual and perennial flowers were planted in the inset of the roof.  In addition to the birdfeeders a class was taught on how to attract different types of birds with different seed

Jay McKenna Troop 426 Repaired and refurbished the fitness course around the Hilliard Community Center.  Some of the stations were  – Step up posts – Body Curl station – Rings station – Push up station.  All 14 stations had the wood border around them painted as well as  their signs and equipment and each station was weeded

Montana Siniff Troop 104 Moved a London City Marker from an outdated location to the London Museum and place it into the front yard area.  This stone is approximately 6’ x 1’ and weighs 600 lbs

Jesse Porter   Troop 426 Built  and restored 6 picnic tables with 6 - 4’ long benches with wheelchair access; 2 – 8’ long benches; scrapped sanded and stained a 6’ x 8’ paddle shed for the Adaptive Adventure Sports Coalition in Dublin Oh

Phillip Krumm  Troop 475 Made 50 3d Eye Spy Bags for Children’s Hospital that are to help kids in “play therapy”.  There were 45 colorful bags and 5 with clear plastic screens filled with Styrofoam beads.  The bags included 20 items (key board keys, puzzle pieces, paper clips, erasers, army men, buttons, dice, marbles, blocks, sponge letters, legos, plastic medals, cloths pins, rings, poker chips, wheels shells, ribbon, quarters and rhinestones

Tony Martin Troop 475 Constructed an 8’ x 8’  handicapped and wheelchair accessible deer hunting blind – widened a pathway with 8” of crushed limestone and added rail road ties beside the entry gate and paved trail leading to that blind for Battelle Darby Metro Park

Aaron Staats   Troop 33 Reorganized the 40’ x  36’ food pantry for the Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio by removing all items from the room  - cleaning of the room -  building 11 – 5’ x 2’ x 2 ½ shelves and 1 – 5’ x 3’ x 2’ shelf  and replacing/organizing those food items

Andrew Blum Troop 104 Taught First Aid to 25 Sunday School teachers at the First United Methodist Church in London Ohio.  Among those stations taught were CPR – how to take care of major and  minor injuries – how to handle snake bites – how to handle emergencies and how to transport injured persons.  The teachers were also taught how to prepare first aid kits for their classrooms that they got to keep

Douglas Crain  Troop 385 Conducted a creek clean up of Marsh Run at Gantz Park in Grove City.  The area cleaned ran from Broadway Home Road thru Gantz Park.  There was 2 tons of trash removed (4 pick up loads) and  12.39 tons taken by dump truck for a total of 14.39 tons (28,780 lbs) of trash taken from this creek

Daniel Brannum Troop 104  Cleaned up a 24’ x 60’ area  - removed lattice and put up peg board along the back wall – and erected 40 sections of a 3’ x 8 ‘ fence within the area.  This was done in the Grange Hall building at the Madison County Fairgrounds for the 4H Fair Board
