It is with great pleasure that we welcome you to the first annual University of Scouting in Simon Kenton Council.  As we all continue to pursue our common goal of providing our Scouting volunteers with tools for better Scouting dedicated to the young men and women we serve, we hope you will find the information you receive useful.   Scouting has a proud 100 year history, and we hope and even greater future!

In this inaugural year, we wish to extend our gratitude to all the past coordinators of the Pow Wows and Colleges of Commissioner Science in our Council.  We have learned from your strong efforts and thank you!  Also, in addition to our present Deans of the Colleges whose names are listed in the Course Offerings Catalog, we thank Kerry Cheesman, 2007 Assistant Provost of the University for his insight into college administration, Mary Jean Speno and Raj Hora for coordinating registrations and designing our University’s patch , Mike Althoff  for taking on the Dean of Facilities role and coordinating our fabulous midway of vendors, classrooms and our lunch, all who serve to make this event run smoothly including our hospitality donors, our first aide nurse, Kathy Sperling, the set-up & clean-up crew, the AV support personnel, and of course our professional advisors, Joe Milharcic and Jeff Schiavone.   Thank you Lee Shaw for helping secure this wonderful host facility for our University of Scouting!

The instructors who teach in our University of Scouting have been chosen by the College Deans for their knowledge, creativity and enthusiasm toward Scouting.  It is our hope that you take the resources they provide back to your districts and units to help insure QUALITY PROGRAMS at those levels for all youths served.  Our young people deserve no less

And so, we hope you enjoy the camaraderie of our community within this University of Scouting, and we thank you for participating in the supplemental training you’ll receive here.  Have fun Scouting!

Colleges of the University of Scouting

Courses are listed under the five colleges of study (Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Venturing-BSA, Scouting Enrichment and Commissioning).  Please carefully note the times each course is offered when filling out your registration choices.  Certificates of completion for attendance will be awarded in each college, with the exception of the commissioner level which continues to follow guidelines of its national syllabus of “Degrees”.  If you don’t get to fit all your desired classes in this year let us know, and please come back again next year.   You are welcomed to choose classes among all the colleges if not seeking a specific commissioner “degree”.

Feel free to mix and match classes among the colleges!
