Cub Scout Den Leader Training

 

What is it?

Specific leader training for Cub Scout Den leaders and assistants.

How long is it?

2 hours, 40 minutes.

Where's it offered?

At scheduled District Trainings (link to District Web Sites)

Course format:

Four presentations, using lecture, discussion, and video.

Learning Objectives:

Presentation 1: Opening ceremony

  • Correctly form the Cub Scout salute, sign, and handshake.
  • Repeat the Cub Scout Promise and Law of the Pack.

     

Presentation 2: "Pack Organization and the Cub Scout Den Leader "

  • Describe the organization of a Cub Scout pack.
  • Explain the role of the Cub Scout den leader in the pack.
  • Explain the relationship between the Cub Scout den leader and other pack leaders.
  • Explain how family involvement supports the pack.
  • Explain the Cub Scout Leader Recognition Plan awards.

     

Presentation 3: "The Cub Scout Advancement Program"

  • Describe the basics of the grade- (or age-) based, "progressive" advancement program in Cub Scouting, and the role of parents at each stage in the advancement program.
  • Describe the Cub Scout advancement program and how it is used.
  • Discuss the Cub Scout den leaders's role in advancement.
  • Describe the basics of all uniforms in Cub Scouting.
  • Describe in detail the uniform worn by Cub Scouts.
  • Explain the importance of the leader's setting the example by wearing the uniform.

Presentation 4: "Den and Pack Program Planning"

  • Tell why planning is important.
  • Describe the use of monthly themes, Webelos activity badges, and Tiger Cub activities in programming for a Cub Scout pack.
  • Explain who is involved in planning the pack program.
  • Describe the purpose of the annual pack program planning conference and explain how it is conducted.
  • Describe the purposes of the monthly pack leaders' meetihg and explain how it is conducted.
  • Explain the purposes and elements of a good Cub Scout den meeting.
  • Use the leadership skill of planning in preparing for a den meeting.
  • Explain how to solve problems in running good den meetings.
