December 20, 2006

The next addition of the One World One Promise Council Shoulder Patch will have a yellow border! Our supply of red-bordered CSP's is gone, and they are now collector's items. The new yellow-bordered patches will be available for sale in January.

December 15, 2006

We are hoping this event turns out to be the biggest and best this Council has ever seen. The youth in our Council have a chance to participate in a weekend camporee unlike any they have every attended.

Just some of the activities that will be going on during the day on Saturday are skeet shooting (16 stations), climbing walls (2), rappelling towers (2), zip lines (one for cubs and one for scouts), BB's and archery for the cubs, target and field archery for the scouts, an interactive shooting simulator from the Army, two Military Police K-9 units, 2 concerts in the afternoon by the Army Band, two and six foot rocket launching, a Conservation Trail with folks from the ODNR, the US Forest Service, Ohio Division of Wildlife, Ducks Unlimited, Ohio EPA, Ohio Fish and Wildlife, Ross County Soil Conservation (just to name a few), an International exhibit hall, a building devoted to Order of the Arrow exhibits and information on various units, and the list continues...on and on and on...

There is an opening show at 8 AM in the grandstand featuring a flag raising with scouts and the military, a military fly in, Baden Powell (well sort of), and some very special guests. Then the fun begins. It ends with the evening show at 8 PM featuring the Order of the Arrow dancers and other surprises and ending with a grand display of fireworks.

Sunday morning is all about the District and a time for you to connect with your volunteers and scouts. Scout services will be featured in every District sub-camp by a member of the clergy. Saturday evening will feature a catholic service by the Bishop of the area.

For only $10-$20 depending on when a unit registered they will be given an event t-shirt and the event patch and the youth will even have the chance to earn a set of four rockers to go around their patch. Plus two nights of camping with both electric and running water (pray not rain please) in the campsites.

REGISTER TODAY AS THE HIGHER FEE IS COMING SOON ON DECEMBER 31, 2006...HOPE TO SEE ALL OF YOU THERE!

The Scouting Adventure Today Program Group

The Boy Scout Program Area

The Boy Scout Program Area will feature an exhibition of fun Scout skills; the fun things Scouts learn and do. Visitors too, will learn and do during brief visits to skill elements of interest; think of the Boy Scout Area as a Skills Fair offering lots of fun. By contrast, the Cub Scout Program area is a Fun Fair offering some skills, often at cross-over points with the Boy Scout Program area - a trail actually - The Trail of True Scouting.

The trail meanders through our event, from skill - element to skill - element, as it leads Scouts and guests through other major event Program Areas featuring International Scouting, the History of Scouting, the Order of the Arrow and the importance of the camping program, our great council camps, and then around the Conservation and Great Outdoors Trail loop where Scouts find their trail through respect for nature. Then on to the Venturing area where Scouts discover that as they grow older they can apply there perfected skills in more challenging environments, then on to the High Adventure Area where Scouts and Venturers compete against their fears, not their peers. Along the way we circle the Cub Scout Fun Fair where Cub Scouts bounce, play, and learn, and where nearby Boy Scout skill elements are available to assist Cub Scouts having great fun. And, ultimately the trail reaches the destination when arriving at Honor - arriving at the Scouting Values and Service area - the Trail of True Scouting Leads to Honor, Values and Service. Along the way visitors will enjoy learning the Scouting way - games with a purpose.

Why should I come to the Scoutings Centenary Celebration…what’s in it for me?

First, let’s rephrase the question:

Why should I bring my Unit or my youth to the Scoutings Centenary Celebration—what’s in it for them?

GREAT QUESTION!

Where should we start? Well, Let’s

BLAST-OFF, literally.

Your youth will see and hear powerful model rockets launched in volleys every fifteen minutes throughout the day! And, they will prepare the rockets for launch…and operate Flight Control, the count down and the launch buttons!

But Wait…There’s more!

Spectacular hourly MEGA-ROCKET launches will zip loudly into the sky leaving smoke trails behind six-foot rockets that quickly reach heights that make them look small from the distance!

The National Association of Rocketry Scouts (NARScouts) will be on-site all day helping interested youth load and launch model rockets. Participants can even bring their own rockets to launch. Interested Scouts will see displays and learn about rocketry as a hobby, and as a career.
