Cub Scout Basic Leader Training
Follow these steps and you will be on the road to success!
Step 1. Fast Start Training (about 30 minutes)
A quick introduction to prepare you for your new job. Fast Start Training is available online at
olc.scouting.org
Please take Fast Start Training as soon as you sign up for your new position. Sessions are provided for Tiger
Leader, Den Leader (Wolf or Bear), Webelos Leader, Cubmaster or Pack Committee.
Step 2. Youth Protection Training (90 minutes)
Learn how to keep Scouting safe for our youth and yourself. You are expected to complete Youth Protection
Training within the first 90 days of your registration as a leader.
Take the classroom session the first time, then renew every 2 years online at
olc.scouting.org (Note: you must have your BSA ID #
to take Youth Protection Training online)
Step 3. Introduction to Cub Scouting & How We Have Fun (60 minutes)
All the basics every new leader needs to know! Take this free classroom session just one time.
Step 4. Cub Scout Leader Position-Specific Training (2 1/2 hours)
We teach what your new leadership role is all about and give you tips, tricks and hints to make your job
easier!
Take the classroom session for your current position. Specific training is offered for Tiger Leaders, Den
Leaders (Wolf & Bear), Webelos Leaders, Pack Committee Members, Cubmasters, Pack Trainers and all assistants.
Interested parents are also welcome!
Step 5. This is Scouting (60 minutes)
This class replaces New Leader Essentials. It is an introductory session that highlights the values, aims, history,
funding and methods of Scouting, along with a look at the resources available. If you have taken New Leader Essentials,
there is no need to take this class. You only need to take this once. It is available free at Cub Leader Training or
it may be taken on-line at olc.scouting.org
Sign up for the entire day or just the classes you need to be trained for your position. Cost is $20 for
the full day training and includes a copy of the Cub Scout Leader Book. Webelos Leaders, add $9
for a copy of the Webelos Leader Guide. Wear your uniform and a smile. Bring your payment and pack a sack lunch
or be prepared to go out for lunch if you are staying all day.
Will your pack qualify as a 2009 Centennial Quality Unit?
Don't miss out on earning this prestigious award due to lack of training for your registered
leaders!! To be fully trained, leaders need to complete Fast Start, Youth Protection,
New Leader Essentials, and Leader Specific Training for their position.
AND did you know . . .
Every Tour Permit must include the name of at least one leader who has had Youth Protection Training?
To register or if you have questions, contact
Ruth White with your name, home address and phone number,
district, unit number, training date(s), and the classes you plan to attend. Please register early to ensure a
class is not cancelled.
Further information is available in the
Cub Leader Training Flier and at Roundtable.
