Eagle Award Application Instructions

To the Eagle Applicant:

Buckeye District advancement policy requires that you do the following to apply for consideration for the Eagle Award.
  1. The following items must be part of your Eagle Award Book:
    • An approved Eagle Award Service Project application.
    • A completed, original National Eagle Award Application.
    • Five completed Letters of Reference in sealed envelopes.
    • A complete, detailed report on your project including: labor utilized with a list of names and hours, material costs, tools and equipment used, and any additional pertinent information; a project narrative description with photos, maps, sketches, and/ or models as necessary to describe the work planned and completed.
    • A copy of all rank advancement and merit badge cards.
  2. When the requirements for merit badges, leadership, and the service project have been met, you must prepare a one page statement of your goals to fulfill that requirement. You and your Unit Leader will hold a personal growth agreement conference to discuss this statement and following this, the Unit Leader will sign and date the appropriate section on the National Eagle Application.
  3. Print your name, address, telephone number, age and unit number on the attached Letters of Reference, put each into a self addressed envelope, and present them to the parties to whom they are directed, asking then to follow the instructions listed on the form. Do not open the envelopes on the return of the letters.
  4. When you have the five required, SEALED LETTERS, you deliver them with the Service Project Application, the detailed report of your Service Project, a copy of your rank advancement and merit badge blue cards and the National Eagle Award Application to your Unit Leader or Unit Advancement Chairman. The Unit Advancement Chairman will then contact a representative of the District Advancement Committee to schedule an Eagle progress review board which you must attend in full uniform.
  5. Following the Eagle Board of Review, the District Advancement Chairman signs and submits the application to the Simon Kenton Council for their approval. It will be recorded as of the date of the Board of Review, provided everything is in order and the application is acted upon favorably by the National Eagle Board of Review.
  6. A Court of honor should not be planned until approval is received from the Simon Kenton Council that the Eagle Application has been accepted by the National Eagle Board of Review. The time required varies with each month but is usually 4 to 6 weeks.
